Commercial Weighing and Measuring Device Inspection
Standards and Consumer Services inspects weighing and measuring devices annually that are used commercially. These devices are inspected and tested in accordance with the specifications and tolerances as set forth in the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Handbook 44. The purpose of this inspection is to ensure that these devices are weighing and measuring accurately. They are inspected using calibrated test standards. On average, approximately 7,000 weighing and measuring devices are inspected annually in the State of New Mexico. Approximately 6% of those devices are placed Out-of-Order for not meeting specifications and tolerances.
