Cryptospirosis/Giardia DFA

Cryptosporidium oocysts and Giardia cysts are detected using preserved stool samples using a fluorescent microscope and FITC-labeled slides. Stool must be preserved in 10% formalin either concentrated or unconcentrated in a 1:10 mixture. Any number of oocysts or cysts seen as having an apple-green fluorescence and characteristic morphology is considered positive. Cryptosporidium and Giardia are transferred fecal-orally among any species.
