NMDA's Entomology and Nursery Industries group is responsible for administering the Pest Control Act, the Plant Protection Act, the Bee Act, the Cotton Boll Weevil Control Act, the Harmful Plant Act, the State Grasshopper and Other Range Pest Control Act, and the Pink Bollworm Control Act.  In administering and enforcing these acts, the department is responsible for mitigating the introduction and spread of new plant pests that pose a threat to New Mexico's agricultural and horticulural industries, to assure a quality horticultural product is sold, and provide phytosanitary certification services.  NMDA also provides inspection services for commercial apiaries to determine the presence of diseases and arthropod pests.  NMDA maintains a memorandum of understanding with USDA-Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service to facilitate collaboration with inspection and survey responsibilities.
