Southwest Border Center for Food Safety and Defense
NMDA's Office of Biosecurity in conjunction with New Mexico State University fosters, promotes, and implements an Emergency Management program that protects New Mexico citizens and communities from the effects of emergencies and disasters.
The Southwest Border Center for Food Safety and Defense has developed partnerships with the National Center for Biomedical Research and Training at Louisiana State University, University of Tennessee Veterinary School, the Western Institute of Food Safety and Security at the University of California Davis, Center for Food Safety and Defense at the University of Minnesota and others.
They have also developed collaborations with the US Attorney's Office, FBI, Border Patrol, Joint Terrorism Task Force, local and state first responders, Anti-terrorism Action Committee and others in the Homeland Security Arena
To help prepare the agricultural industry and the state of New Mexico for disaster response, the Center provides Tabletop Exercises, Training Programs, and Surveillance activities for first responders.
